Gillette (Shaved Letters) | Typography Project
This project that began in early April was based around the idea of designing a typographical poster that promotes the razor and shaving supply company Gillette, by the way of incorporating a particular style of humour that visually emphasises the quality and precision of the product by “partially shaving the message”.

As you will see, the visual style of the final outcome is primarily based on the use of simplicity, given the effects and textures that are included within the letter-based content, along with a slight dose of minimalism as seen within the illustration content due to its basic shape-oriented appearance.

The final outcome was originally going to include a slogan that would brag, from a corporate language point of view, on how their very own promise and guarantee of the product’s efficiency would certainly not be as accurate, and as “sharp”, as the actual razor itself. However, considering the main typography and illustration had it’s own visual and verbal narrative that would need to be deciphered by the viewer, the idea was eventually dropped.

The display mockup for the final outcome places the design itself into a black frame that is then rested up against a wall that shares the same colour as the dominant colour of the finished poster. This helps ensure that both elements blend together in a calm yet formal manner that isn’t too distracting, or make one seem out of place from the other.
